De Gianfranco [The Clipper n° 119]
When Fai introduced in 1951 the new rules (A2 gliders, Wakefield, 2.5cc gas models) Paolo Evangelisti, the top glider models maker in Torino designed and build the Attanasio looking for good aerodynamics added to simple construction, his approach being in a competition you can damage the model the simplest it is the easier will be the reparation enabling you to continue the competition The model did very well in 1951/52. In 1952 I joined Paolo's group (AGO _ Torino) and as usual started with glider building the Attansio, which I entered in a couple of competitions but lacking experience my result were not so good, after accumulating experience I entered the Italian Championship in 1953 being
coached by Claudio Cargnelutti (the future winner of the FNA Cup), Claudio was a perfect tactician choosing the best moment tofly and I won.
Then having win a G20 motor and lacking in the Club a second gas models I moved to that category. I do not remember what happened to my attention but I feel I offer to someone in the Club.
In 1954 I attended with Carlo Varetto (former Italian A/2 member and then coach of the F3J team) the Middle Wallop Championship in the A/2 and open glider for the A/2 I chose the Attanasio and for the Open the FD15, the model I flew at SAM Championship in Pensacola. Second touch of luck the Attanasio got first place. The last competition was the French Championship in 2000 third touch of luck, the championship went to a "non French"
After that competition lacking decent fields for free flight and my legs getting older the model was converted to RC assisted.
